True Fulfillment

Do you get true fulfillment from your career? Don’t worry most people don’t but there are a few things you can do about it.

Firstly, it’s a really good idea to have a global vision and mission statement. Something that gets you excited and motivated when you tell others about what you do. A statement that you can use as a litmus test if you’re unsure about taking on a new project or moving your company in a new direction.

The reason I say Global is because it should be defined in terms of an all encompassing “overall feeling” about who you are and what you do. This could be either for you as an individual or your company as group of people taking on new projects and ventures together.

I have a very close friend Jono Wilcocks who is as entrepreneurial as they come. And when he’s talking about what he does he always seems to include his overarching “why”.

His “why” is heartwarming, motivational and inspirational. He sees his company Pinnacle Pursuits  (an Outdoor experiential Educational provider) as an instrumental part of the global community.  Jono sums up his company this way,

“We offer creative programs that make the world a better place to live, work, learn and play. With this as our main focus we can help build teams that commit and are capable of solving problems, taking risks, changing, and growing.”

His eyes light up and he speaks with passion whenever he gets the chance to talk about his company and his work.

Jono’s message is simple and clear. What can we all take from his entrepreneurial wisdom? My take is this. “With your vision focused on where you’re going and your mission – your day to day activities – strategically aligned with your compelling future. Your thoughts and energy will naturally move you and your organization in the right direction.” DJK

The most important thing you can do today with your team is to define your VISION. Then put in place the steps to get you there; your MISSION.

Once you’ve defined your Raison d’être you can hold every new project, new action, old ways of doing things to task. Simply ask this question before embarking; Does this new opportunity, new project, current project or old way of doing things serve our ultimate goal and our greater vision? Will doing this thing bring us closer to where we want to go as individuals and as a company? If the answer is yes then GO! GO! GO! 

If not, then well, you know what to do. And btw, there is no “Secondly” in case you haven’t noticed.
